Warriors announce new captain for 2016

The Warriors have announced that Ryan Hoffman will replace Simon Mannering as captain in 2016.

The Warriors have announced Ryan Hoffman as their new captain for 2016.

The decision was made after Mannering, who has captained the Warriors for the past six seasons told teammates he would stand down from the role in an attempt to enjoy his football more.

“While it has been a massive honour being captain, I wasn’t enjoying my football and felt the responsibilities of the captaincy were a big factor in that", Mannering said.

“It has taken a big weight off me.”

Hoffman, an Origin veteran, revealed the joy he felt upon receiving the news.

“It’s a huge honour and I’m totally humbled to be offered the job,” Hoffman told the Warriors website.

“It’s a brave decision Simon has made. He’s a terrific leader and player and I know he’ll still be there as usual doing everything he can to help the team.”

Warriors coach Andrew McFadden maintained that Mannering was the preferred choice for the role, but viewed Hoffman as the obvious replacement.
